I couldn't put it down. The characters are utterly engrossing, all of them, the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. Barlasch is a mysterious figure. How did he acquire such mastery, and nobility, such cunning? The author's insights into human nature are both wise and witty, and his telling of an adventure story set in the defeat of Napoleon is masterful. Dickens would have been proud to have written this book.Product details
